Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? |
Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”? |
Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose: “He jealously desires (or, desires to jealousy) the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us” (or, “The Spirit which He has made to dwell in us jealously desires us”)? |

Or do you think Scripture says without reason that the spirit He caused to live in us envies intensely (or, that God jealously longs for the spirit that He made to live in us; or, that the Spirit He caused to live in us longs jealously)? |
Or do you suppose that the Scripture is speaking to no purpose that says, The Spirit Whom He has caused to dwell in us yearns over us and He yearns for the Spirit [to be welcome] with a jealous love? |
Or, do you think that the scripture says in an empty manner and to no purpose, The Spirit [Holy Spirit] who has been caused to make His permanent home in us has a passionate desire [to control us] to the point of envy [of any control indwelling sin may have over us]? |

Or do you think what the scriptures have to say about this is a mere formality? Do you imagine that this spirit of passionate jealousy is the Spirit He has caused to live in us? |
Or, do you think that the Scripture means nothing when it says, “He jealously yearns for the Spirit that He causes to dwell in your hearts”? |
