Romans 7:8

Greek/English Interlinear with Strong’s Numbers

King James Version

But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.
New King James Version

But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire. For apart from the law sin was dead.
New American Standard Bible

But sin, taking opportunity through the commandments, produced in me coveting (lust) of every kind; for apart from the Law (or from law) sin is dead.
New International Version

But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetous desire. For apart from law, sin is dead.
The Amplified Bible

But sin, finding opportunity in the commandment [to express itself], got a hold on me and aroused and stimulated all kinds of forbidden desires (lusts, covetousness). For without the Law sin is dead [the sense of it is inactive and a lifeless thing].
Wuest’s Expanded Translation

But the sinful nature, using the commandment as a fulcrum, brought about in me every kind of evil craving. For without law, the sinful nature was dead.
Phillips’ Modern English

But the sin in me, finding in the commandment an opportunity to express itself, stimulated all my desires. For sin, in the absence of the Law, has no life of its own.
Williams’ Language of the People

Sin found its rallying point in that command and stirred within me every sort of evil desire, for without law sin is lifeless.
