King James Version

Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
New King James Version

Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.
New American Standard Bible

Therefore he who resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves.
New International Version

Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
The Amplified Bible

Therefore he who resists and sets himself up against the authorities resists what God has appointed and arranged [in divine order]. And those who resist will bring down judgment upon themselves [receiving the penalty due them].
Wuest’s Expanded Translation

So that the one who sets himself in array against the authority, against the ordinance of God has set himself, with the result that he is in a permanent position of antagonism against the ordinance. And those who resist shall receive for themselves judgment.
Phillips’ Modern English

To oppose authority then is to oppose God, and such opposition is bound to be punished.
Williams’ Language of the People

so that anyone who resists the authorities sets himself against what God has established, and those who set themselves against Him will get the penalty due them.
