So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously.”

And when the [Joseph and Mary] saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, Child, why have You treated us like this? Here Your father and I have been anxiously looking for You [distressed and tormented].
Wuest’s Expanded Translation
And having seen Him, they were struck with astonishment to the point of a loss of self-control. And His mother said to Him, My child, why did You treat us in this manner? Behold. Your father and I are searching constantly for You, being in anguish.
Phillips’ Modern English
When Joseph and Mary saw Him, they could hardly believe their eyes, and His mother said to Him, “Why have You treated us like this, my son? Here have Your father and I been worried, looking for You everwhere!”
