Romans 7:6

Greek/English Interlinear with Strong’s Numbers

King James Version

But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
New King James Version

But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.
New American Standard Bible

But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit (or, spirit) and not in oldness of the letter.
New International Version

But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.
The Amplified Bible

But now we are discharged from the Law and have terminated all intercourse with it, having died to what once restrained and held us captive. So now we serve not under [obedience to] the old code of written regulations, but [under obedience to the promptings] of the Spirit in newness [of life].
Wuest’s Expanded Translation

But now we were discharged from the law, having died to that in which we were constantly being held down, insomuch that we are rendering habitually a slave’s obedience in a sphere new in quality, that of the Spirit, and not in a sphere outworn as to usefulness, in a sphere of that which was put in writing.
Phillips’ Modern English

But now that we stand clear of the Law, the claims which existed are dissolved by our “death,” and we are free to serve God not in the old obedience to the letter of the Law, but in a new way, in the Spirit.
Williams’ Language of the People

But now we have been freed from our relation to the law; we have ended our relation to that by which we once were held in bonds, so that we may serve in a new spiritual and not in the old literalistic way.
