For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: |

Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. |

For, take a good look at your divine summons [into salvation], brethren, that not many wise men according to human standards, not many men of dignity and power, not many who are of royal or aristocratic lineage are given that divine summons [into salvation], |

For look at your own calling as Christians, my brothers. You don’t see among you many of the wise (according to this world’s judgment) nor many of the ruling class, nor many from the noblest families. |
