King James Version

For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
New King James Version

For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep (dead).
New American Standard Bible

For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, and (who) remain until the coming of the Lord, shall not precede those who have fallen asleep.
New International Version

According to the Lord’s own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.
The Amplified Bible

Here we have a definite message from the Lord. It is that those who are still living when He comes will not in any way precede those who have previously fallen asleep.
Williams’ Language of the People

For on the Lord’s own authority we say that those of us who may be left behind and are still living when the Lord comes back, will have no advantage at all over those who have fallen asleep.
