Galatians 3:19

Greek/English Interlinear with Strong’s Numbers

King James Version

Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
New King James Version

What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator.
New American Standard Bible

Why the Law then? It was added because of transgressions, having been ordained through angels by the agency (hand) of a mediator, until the seed should come to whom the promise has been made.
New International Version

What, then, was the purpose of the law? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come. The law was put into effect through angels by a mediator.
The Amplified Bible

What then was the purpose of the Law? It was added [later on, after the promise, to disclose and expose to men their guilt] because of transgression and [to make men more conscious of the sinfulness] of sin; and it was intended to be in effect until the Seed (the Descendant, the Heir) should come, to and concerning Whom the promise had been made. And it [the Law] was arranged and ordained and appointed through the instrumentality of angels [and was given] by the hand (in the person) of a go-between [Moses, an intermediary person between God and man].
Wuest’s Expanded Translation

What is then the significance of the law? For the sake of transgressions it was added until there should come the Descendant to whom the promise was made, having been promulgated by angels through the instrumentality of the hand of a mediator.
Phillips’ Modern English

Where then lies the point of the Law? It was an addition made to underline the existence and extent of sin but only until the arrival of the “Seed” to whom the promise referred. The Law was appointed by means of angels, by the hand of an intermediary.
Williams’ Language of the People

Then what about the law? It was added later on to increase transgressions, until the Descendant to whom the promise was made should come, enacted through the agency of angels in the person of an intermediary.
