James 5:12

Greek/English Interlinear with Strong’s Numbers

King James Version

But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
New King James Version

But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. But let your “Yes” be “Yes,” and your “No,” “No,” lest you fall into judgment.
New American Standard Bible

But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath; but let your yes be yes, and your no, no (or, let yours be the yes, yes, and the no, no); so that you may not fall under judgment.
New International Version

Above all, my brothers, do not swear – not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let you “Yes” be yes, and your “No,” no, or you will be condemned.
The Amplified Bible

But above all [things], my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath; but let your yes be [a simple] yes, and your no be [a simple] no, so that you may not sin and fall under condemnation.
Wuest’s Expanded Translation

But especially, my brethren, stop the practice of putting yourselves under oath, neither by the heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath, but be letting your Yes be Yes and your No be No in order that you may not fall under judgment.
Phillips’ Modern English

It is of the highest importance, my brothers, that your speech should be free from oaths (whether they are “by” heaven or earth or anything else). Your yes should be a plain yes, and your no a plain no, and then you cannot go wrong in the matter.
Williams’ Language of the People

Above all, my brothers, stop swearing, either by heaven or by the earth, or by anything else. Let your “Yes” mean Yes, and your “No,” No, so as to keep from falling under condemnation.
