And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some as poimenas and teachers,

It was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be poimenas and teachers,

And His gifts were [varied; He Himself appointed and gave men to us] some to be apostles (special messengers), some prophets (inspired preachers and expounders), some evangelists (preachers of the Gospel, traveling missionaries), some poimenas (shepherds of His flock) and teachers.

And He Himself gave some, on the one hand, as apostles, and on the other hand, as prophets, and still again some as bringers of good news, and finally, some as poimenas who are also teachers,

His "gifts unto men" were varied. Some He made His messengers, some prophets, some preachers of the gospel; to some He gave the power to guide and teach His people.
