For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness: |
For neither at any time did we use flattering words, as you know, nor a cloak for covetousness – God is witness. |
For we never came with flattering speech (in a word of flattery), as you know, nor with a pretext for greed – God is witness – |
You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed – God is our witness. |
For as you well know, we never resorted either to words of flattery or to any cloak to conceal greedy motives or pretexts for gain, [as] God is our witness. |
For neither were we found using flattering discourses, even as you know assuredly, nor a pretext to cover up the desire to have more than one already has, God is witness, |
No one could say, as again you know, that we used flattery to conceal greed, and God Himself is our witness. |
Indeed, we have never resorted to flattery, as you are well aware, nor to any pretext for making money; God is our witness. |
